Experts in in-situ conservation from Denmark and the UK, French wildlife researchers, the DAF core team, and Filipino vets; this eclectic group gathered in France this July to further work on the feasibility study for tamaraw translocation and in-situ intervention, demonstrating that a picturesque venue can be combined with an important conservation-related activity.
Various parameters were scrutinized during this 3-day elicitation workshop, thus balancing the persistent lack of information about the species, through a Structure Decision Making methodology.
The results of the meeting will help complete the overall FS parameters matrix, that will serve as the basis for testing all the alternative strategies for tamaraw conservation that were previously formulated by the FS team in the Philippines. Each alternative will be assessed through statistical modeling to evaluate its pertinence and weaknesses.
We thank our fellow Filipino partners from TCP and UPLB for making this long journey and we thank our participants from various backgrounds and countries for their contribution to the activity. We also thank the mayor of the small village of Curtil sous Buffières in Burgundy, for enabling us to use the town hall as a venue for the event.
This activity is supported by SEGRE Foundation in collaboration with ZSL.
