Earlier this April, 9 teams of 3 people were deployed for 7 days within the tamaraw area of presence in Mts Iglit-Baco Natural Park to reiterate the counting of Tamaraw using the double observer estimator method. This operation aims at providing a more accurate population estimate compared to other census methods such as the annual tamaraw count. It will help build baseline population estimates while transitioning to a new monitoring system using Ecological Changes Indexes. The collected data will now undergo analysis using the population statistical model built by our scientific partner in France to produce the final results.
This operation was conducted by the Tamaraw Conservation Program and MIBNP PAMO together with the D’ABOVILLE Foundation and Mindoro Biodiversity Conservation Foundation
This activity is supported by the UKAID DARWIN Initiative through the Thriving Together with Tamaraw Project led by Re:wild
