Double observer estimator method

This year, the DENR decided to reconduct the annual count using the double observer estimator method based on the use of two twin observers to measure the probability of detection.

DAF and its international partners are providing technical assistance to this operation. The fieldwork was undertaken earlier in April simultaneously with the traditional annual tamaraw population count.

The raw data collected will undergo analysis through the statistical model that was created for that purpose last year, in order to reveal its results that may corroborate our initial fear: the true number of tamaraw is actually lower than what we think.
