Contribution to the International Symposium on Wild Boar and other Suids (Sept 6-9)

Earlier this month, Fernando Garcia Gil, DAF Wildlife Conservation Research Officer, was attending the 13th International Symposium on Wild Boar and other Suids in Spain. DAF was presenting a poster highlighting the findings of the different camera trap research projects in which we are involved in Mindoro. We aim our contribution to highlight the fate of Mindoro’s biodiversity beyond the borders of the Philippines and especially the neglected Mindoro warty pig. As a member of the IUCN / SSC Wild Pig Specialist Group, Fernando took part to a side meeting of the IUCN, exploring ways to better protect and study these taxa.

Thanks to the DENR- Tamaraw Conservation Program, DENR Mount Calavite, the MENRO LGU Sablayan, University Santo Tomas, DOST PCAARRD and all the team of project MATAPAT for their hard work, and all the people involved in the organization of this Symposium, and the IUCN SSC Wild Pig group for their tireless effort for the conservation of these amazing animals.

This conservation and research work is supported by Mandai Nature , Tierpark Berlin, ZGAP, AFdPZ - Association Française des Parcs Zoologiques and Chester Zoo
