Last September 2025, one (1) technical staff member each from the Tamaraw Conservation Program Office (TCPO), Mounts Iglit–Baco Natural Park Protected Area Management Office (MIBNP PAMO), PENRO Occidental Mindoro, DENR MIMAROPA, and Mindoro State University (MINSU), along with two (2) technical staff from CENRO San Jose, and staff from the D’ABOVILLE Foundation and Demo Farm, Inc. (DAF), and the Mindoro Biodiversity Conservation Foundation, Inc. (MBCFI), completed a training on statistical analysis using RStudio for tamaraw monitoring dung transect surveys.

The training took place in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, and served as the second session of the statistical analysis training, following the previous session conducted in July 2025. This workshop is part of the transition to a new approach for estimating tamaraw populations in Mount Iglit-Baco Natural Park, which was approved by DENR, specifically through the use of the Index of Ecological Change (IEC) method.

Ms. Louäne Barnier, a DAF intern from the University of Strasbourg, France, designed the training with Dr. Christophe Bonenfant, from the University of Lyon, Laboratory of Biometry, Evolutive Ecology, an expert in population dynamics of big mammals. Ms. Barnier also served as the principal resource person. The second session primarily focused on hands-on data analysis exercises and included a short assessment to evaluate participants’ application of concepts introduced during the first session.

This activity is part of Thriving Together with Tamaraw, an initiative implemented by a consortium led by Re:wild, in partnership with the D'ABOVILLE Foundation and Demo Farm, Inc. (DAF), and the Mindoro Biodiversity Conservation Foundation, Inc. (MBCFI), with support from the Biodiversity Challenge Funds  (BCF) through UK Aid.
