On November 25, 2024, the DENR- Tamaraw Conservation Program spearheaded a technical forum addressing three critical topics for tamaraw conservation in Mounts Iglit-Baco Natural Park, with the presence and participation of Mindoro Biodiversity Conservation Foundation Inc., DENR Mimaropa, Mounts Iglit-Baco Natural Park - MIBNP and D'Aboville Foundation.

The following topics were presented during the forum:

(1) Tamaraw Safe Range Expansion

(2) Reducing the use of grassland burning in the Tamaraw count zone

(3) Moving to new monitoring techniques of tamaraw populations

In line with this, new DAF field technical specialist, Ms. Pauline Maglipon, presented the results of her thesis “Spatiotemporal Distribution and Diversity of Plant Communities in Post-fire Sites in Mt. Iglit - Baco National Park, Occidental Mindoro, Philippines” which was co-advised by DAF, using habitat data collected in the past years.

The conference was full of great discussions and opportunities for clarification. Results will materialize by building a common action plan between DAF, TCP, and MIBNP-PAMO in aligning activities.
