John Carlo Redeña Santos, our DAF Protection and Law Enforcement Coordinator, was invited to join forces with James Slade, wildlife protection expert at Re:wild to participate in the 𝟯𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺-𝗢𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲, 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲, 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝘆𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱, 𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟭𝟮-𝟭𝟰. Together they presented their ongoing works on the use of problem-oriented policing and situational crime prevention approach to address illegal and harmful activities toward the remaining tamaraws at Mts. Iglit-Baco Natural Park in Mindoro. Their presentation revolved around how crime scripts- and harm scripts – can be used to better understand both illegal hunting of external non-indigenous poachers and traditional hunting by taobuid indigenous communities in order to develop crime- and harm-prevention strategies that could complement current law enforcement systems around tamaraw protection.

This project is supported by SEGRE Foundation, ZSL, and Re:wild.
